The Team

The GGF was founded in 1970, formed through a shared passion for local myths, legends and curiosities.

In 47 years, we’ve investigated over 30 local legends and most of our team have experienced things that have no rational explanation – but just because we haven’t worked all the answers out yet doesn’t mean we can label them as ghost, spirit, alien or cryptic encounters. They simply have to remain as unexplained –for the time being…

This is what fuels our desire for answers and keeps us ‘ever curious’.

I studied archaeology at the University of Hull, and gained my MA in Biological Anthropology at Manchester University, way back (or so it seems!) in 1976. My instinct is to discount anything without concrete proof, but I’m always open to debate.

I am a lecturer in Folklore, which I studied at Jagiellonian University. I have always been fascinated by urban myth and legend, and Hull has a lot of this and history people do not necessarily know about yet.

I like watching documentaries and drawing. I’m a big fan of comics and am working on my own graphic novel about a series of parallel universes that come together.

I am a campanologist, and have recently completed my ART accreditation to teach bell-ringing to beginners. This involves a lot of travelling and meeting other teachers and enthusiasts up and down the country.

I originally came to Hull to study Sociology in 1969 and never left! I fell in love with the City, and then met my husband here. I’m now a newly-qualified counsellor at the grand age of 57, and am currently studying aromatherapy.

I’m an archivist in a local museum. When I’m not at work, I really enjoy cooking, gaming and looking after my twin girls, Amy-Louise and Molly-Mae.

I love cosplaying and try to get to as many Sci-Fi and Fantasy conventions as possible. I’m also a huge fan of manga art and have two mad cats, Wookie and Ewok.

Alumnus / Fellowship co-founder

I’m a founding member of the GGF, along with Martin and Antony. Although I very much take a back seat these days, I still work closely with the team on a number of investigations, primarily in a research and advisory capacity.

I joined the GGF after a very strange experience at Barmston Drain, which we investigated afterwards. We have grandchildren at home now so it’s difficult to go to meetings, but I do try and keep in touch with what’s happening.

My dad was a night security guard near Whitefriargate and he used to come home and tell us all sorts about what he’d heard and seen - I don’t know if he was ever brave enough to investigate though! I left the group in 2007 to care for my wife, but I still take a keen interest in their work.
